“It is consistently the single most powerful hypnotherapy session for clients. Many are genuinely surprised at how real their inner child is and are very moved by the strength of the inner child’s emotional needs. The consequent changes produced in the client’s self-esteem and the new confident ways in which they now relate to others are nothing short of amazing!”

Costa  Lambrias was at the Mindworx Expo in October 2008 where he presented Inner Child Therapy.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the Wake of the Victorian Fires
Written by Gary Johnston

Gary JohnsonIn the wake of the massive devastation and death visited on us all by the Victorian bush fires of February ’09, it is timely to look at the fallout that is sure to come. The sheer scale, intensity and hopelessness of these fires have been described by army officers as worse than any battle zone they have ever been in.

An unfortunate but inevitable result will be the onset of severe high anxiety disorders and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) across a broad section of those directly and indirectly involved.

PTSD is a terrifying and deeply disturbing result of being thrust into life threatening events. The results often last decades without relent. High anxiety levels, uncontrollable anger, depression, nightmares and spontaneous flash backs are all the domain of PTSD and the victim often feels like he or she has just been forgotten because it is difficult for anyone else to understand the hell they live in.

It’s Never Too Late to Have A Happy Childhood
Written by Georgina Williams

Costa LambriasAt the Mindworx 2008 National Hypnosis and Counselling Expo 08 we were very fortunate to have a preliminary talk as well as a workshop on Inner Child Work presented by Costa Lambrias from the UK.

I had the chance to attend the talk and interview Anastasia Konis about her experience of the workshop.

Costa began by explaining that the Inner Child work he has developed is usually indicated when a client has chronic self-esteem and confidence problems. These may be specific confidence problems e.g. phobias, public speaking, specific social problems, or they could be general lack of confidence usually as a result of low self-esteem.

His basic tenet is that “We’re all here to have a wonderful experience of life”. He believes something must have happened to change that, and that is why his client is presenting with a problem. As a therapist, he derives a great deal of pleasure in helping people to retain that wonderful experience of life.

Ultra-Learning Skills with Hypnosis Seminar
Written by Anastasia Konis

Devin HastingsWe had the privilege of enjoying Devin’s award winning style of presenting at the MindWorX Expo during this three-day event from Friday 10th October to Sunday 12th October 2008.  His natural humour and exceptional language and hypnosis skills provided the frame of his “memorable” self-help seminar of Ultra-Learning Skills with Hypnosis – Turbo-Charge Your Learning Abilities and Your Hypnosis Power.

Devin’s seminar dispelled many myths around learning and memory, and what truly constitutes ‘INTELLIGENCE’.  ‘Reframing’ is the main process used, as most people ignore their successes and focus mainly on what they perceive they can’t do.  Making clients and ourselves aware of gains, and reminding ourselves and our clients of what we and they are doing right – taking note of all small and subtle progress while developing learning and memory skills.

How to Build a Professional & Ethical Practice

De Kretser LawyerOn Sunday February 8th, CCH welcomed the following guest presenters to share their experience and expertise in various aspects of professional practice:

• “Risk Management” presented by CCH Honorary Lawyer Andrew De Kretser
• “Efficient and Effective Administration” presented by Julie Madden
• “Performance - Be Good, Smart and Honest” presented by Daryl Wilkinson
• “Morale – Don’t Give Up!” presented by Jenet Kirby

In the increasingly litigious society in which we live, despite the fact that there has never been a single instance of legal action against a Clinical Hypnotherapist in Australia, CCH Honorary Lawyer, Andrew De Kretser stressed the need for adequate Risk Management within our profession.

The Unconscious is all the Ego States that are not out
Written by Karin Plummer

Gordon EmersonI was privileged to be involved in a workshop undertaken by eminent psychologist, Gordon Emmerson, well known for his development and utilisation of Ego State Therapy. Gordon is an engaging speaker who kept a roomful of helping professionals riveted for three hours.

According to Gordon, ego state personality theory is based on the concept that the personality is not one homogenous whole, but is composed of a number of sections or parts which he calls ‘ego states’. The “I”, the ego, goes with us into these different sections or parts, hence the name Ego State Therapy. Ego State Therapy facilitates the ego state that is causing the client a problem, to come forward and reach resolution. By doing so, the origin of the problem can be directly addressed and the path between goal and solution, shortened.

Congratulations Victoria!
Written by Lyndall Briggs

Joane Goulding with Lyndall BriggsIt was with great pleasure and pride that I attended the CCH meeting on Sunday 10th August, to represent the ASCH, to pay tribute to people who had contributed to the deregulation of Hypnotherapy in Victoria a short decade ago.

On behalf of the ASCH, I presented the following awards: Les Bullock, (Honorary Life Membership HLM), Joane Goulding (HLM), Max Baker (HLM), Don March (Fellow), Jeff Berger (Fellow). I think the words on the awards say it all – “Let it be known that by unanimous decision of The Executive Board of the ASCH, (name), is hereby recognised for having provided extensive and valued service to this Society, and to the advancement of Clinical Hypnotherapy in general.”
